Diving Cyprus with Scuba Tech Diving Centre

NOVEMBER 2013:Winter is Coming

November has arrived here in Cyprus but apart from a bit of wind, you wouldn't believe it was winter time. The Sun is still shining, land temperatures are in the mid 20s and the water is still a balmy 22 degrees.

However, it is now officially "out of season" and many businesses and hotels have closed for winter but we are hoping you will be enticed by our winter warmers with 10% off all our recreational diving courses from either PADI or BSAC.

The pathfinder rebreather from ISC

I was lucky enough to try diving on the Pathfinder Rebreather this month. The Pathfinder is the new unit from ISC, the makers of the Megalodon. It is a much smaller CCR and with new ISCAN electronics, plug and play connections and almost 10kgs lighter than the Megalodon, I think the Pathfinder is ideal for the smaller diver or for the rebreather diver that likes to travel.

The last month, we have been doing a fair amount of wreck diving here in Cyprus with new dive boats opening up the wrecks that were unreachable before.

Since we stay open for much of the winter season, it is good to know that there are new flight routes that are opening up this winter. Chief amongst them is the new route from Liverpool to Larnaca fromEASY JET.

The winter months here in Cyprus are beautiful for diving. The temperature of the sea never drops below 16 degrees and you can usually sunbathe most days in the glorious Cyprus heat and now that there are cheaper flights available to get here, there will be no stopping us.

SEPTEMBER 2013:Autumn Falls

As September ends and we head towards October, the last "official" month of the Cyprus holiday season, we at ScubaTech Diving Centre have been doing our part to raise awareness for the health of our oceans.

International Beach Clean Up with GUWAA

Working in association with the GUWAA, we took part in an attempt to break the world record for number of divers taking part in an underwater clean up.

As yet, we are waiting for confirmation as to whether the record was broken but with divers taking part from over 80 different countries worldwide, it was a great attempt.

POst diving clean up BBQ

Here in Cyprus, only two of our local dive centres took part but we managed to involve 20 divers in total. Of course, what event would be complete on a summer Isle without the compulsory BBQ afterwards.

The Fall sees us moving back to Technical Courses with Advanced Nitrox and Helitrox courses from TDI running with a Normoxic Trimix mid-October. Then, following swiftly on its heels is a triad of PADI Tech Courses from TEC40 to 50 using the sidemount configuration.

Sidemount Diving in Cyprus

The Sidemount Diving has been a roaring success and we have already converted some of our regular Divers across. You can always notice Scuba Tech Dive Centre when we are out and about, from the mix of Diving we do together. From Single tank to twinset, Sidemount configuration and Rebreather Diving.

AUGUST 2013: The Year of the Meg?

Entering August, it's hard to believe that we are half way through yet another Diving Season.

Cyprus sunrise in summer

Although, if you fancy a winter diving break, don't be put off, as here at Scuba Tech, we continue Diving into December, as the water temperature only dips as low as 21-22 degrees. Still balmy by most standards!

This seems to be the year of the Rebreather here at Scuba Tech Diving Centre with a few Megalodon Mod 1 courses running, plenty of Meg Divers wanting t just Dive and practice their Skills and lots and lots of Rebreather Try Dives on the Unit.

Why not? The Megalodon is one of the most robust and durable units on the rebreather market. It makes sense to choose a rebreather you can rely on, and this unit certainly fits the bill!

The Diva Boat is officially back in the water and she is complete with proper bottom finder, so searching for new and exciting Dive Sites around Protaras should be easier than ever.

Some friends of Scuba Tech Diving Centre have recently invested in a boat on the South Eastern coast of Cyprus and we have been using this to investigate new potential Dive Sites on this side of Cyprus

A hectic month, we have been pleased and proud to introduce members of the United Nations Military Police to Scuba Diving.

The UNFICYP came down to Scuba Tech, tried scuba Diving for the first time in the balmy waters of Green Bay and all left with a big smile on their faces and a disc full of underwater video and photos.

Of Course, we cannot sign off without congratulating the newest members of the Scuba Tech Teams, our new PADI DiveMasters, Dawn and John. They have worked so hard over the past few months and deserve their place in the PADI and Scuba Tech family.

April 2013: SIDEMOUNT DIVING IN CYPRUS

Here at Scuba Tech Diving Centre in Cyprus, we are always trying to increase the courses we can offer you the Diver. 2013 is no exception and we are pleased to announce that we can now offer Sidemount Diver Training.

Sidemount Diver in Protaras in Cyprus

Sidemounting offers Divers a different and alternative way to streamline in the water while reducing lower back strain. This is because the diving cylinders are moved from the back to the side of the diver taking the weight of the equipment off the Diver's back.

The Sidemount Diver also has access to additional, air supply, as the diver uses 2 cylinders, offering redundancy for extra safety and conservatism while allowing longer dive times. Perfect for those deeper dives in Cyprus, such as Zenobia. Since all the Dive equipment is in front of you rather than behind the head, the Diver also has the ability to monitor all kit; valves, regulators etc, offering more safety and security.

Transportation of your Dive equipment on land is also easier for the Diver when you Sidemount your tanks because you won't have to walk with your cylinders on your back to the Dive Site, you can simply clip them on in the water and off you go

So, whether you would like to take a Sidemount Diver Training Course or just Try Sidemount Diving with a Discover Sidemount Diving Experience Day, just get in touch with us here at Scuba Tech Diving Centre in Cyprus and our highly trained Diving Instructors can provide you with all the information you need

2013: Easter

2013 is flying by already here in Cyprus and Easter had arrived in the blink of an eye. There has been plenty of diving here so far from both shore and boat on the Zenobia.

I am sure you have heard plenty about our tiny little island, as we have been in the news quite a bit recently as a result of the Cyprus Banking Crisis but we are hoping the difficult times are behind us now and are looking to 2013 and the future with a lot of optimism and hope, after all the sun is still shining and the beer is still cold...

...and the plans are still in the pipeline for a new wreck here for divers in Protaras. The (CTO) Cyprus Tourist Organisation is working closely with the Department of Fisheries to drop a new wreck near the Liberty Wreck and create a marine park in the area, which will limit fishing, allowing fish stocks to grow.

Wreck diving cyprus

As every year, we at Scuba Tech are open and ready to dive whatever the water temperature. At the moment, we have a lovely balmy 17 degrees across the board at all dive sites, which means that divers spoiled by warm water diving temperatures (like the team here at the dive centre) will want a well fitting wetsuit or dry suit but Over the next few weeks and months, the temperature will start going up.

The benefit of the colder temperatures mean less divers out and about. We generally have the dive sites to ourselves. That is, of course, if you don't include all the little critters found in Cyprus' Seas

For those divers out there who may wish to try diving a closed circuit rebreather for the first time, Scuba Tech Diving Centre does offer Rebreather Try-Dives here in Cyprus so you can try the experience.

Rebreather diving is very different to Open Circuit diving and our 'Discover Rebreather Dives' are a fantastic way to see if this is the correct route for you to take.

2013: Happy New Year

Well, let us begin our news update by welcoming in the new year, 2013.

2013 will be Scuba Tech Diving Centre's 4th year of operation here in Cyprus and, like the previous 3 years, we are still striving to improve the service we offer all our friends and fellow divers.

Sidemount diving seems to be an increasingly popular way of diving recently and, while we have always been able to accommodate and cater to sidemount divers wishing to dive with us here at Scuba TEch Diving Centre, 2013 will see us offering PADI training courses in this.

Dive Equipment Servicing in Cyprus

For those diver who would like their diving equipment serviced ready for the 2013 season, now is the time to get your kit to us. We can service most makes and model of Regulators and BCDs and test your Scuba Tanks. If you have any questions or queries ith regards to having your Dive Kit serviced, please get in touch at info@scubatechdivers.com.

New articles were released by the CTO pertaining to the creation of new marine parks around the coast of Cyprus. This is part of the drive to increase tourism in the area and will involve no-fish zones and new wrecks being sunk. New guidelines for dates to establish these marine parks now suggest it will be between March and June with sites being open to divers by July. Keep your fingers crossed.

For those divers out there who may wish to try diving a closed circuit rebreather for the first time, Scuba Tech Diving Centre does offer Rebreather Try-Dives here in Cyprus so you can try the experience.

Rebreather diving is very different to Open Circuit diving and our 'Discover Rebreather Dives' are a fantastic way to see if this is the correct route for you to take.

rebreather try dives in Cyprus on Megalodon rebreather

The water temperature is around 17 degrees at the moment, which means many cold water divers will feel nice and balmy here diving right now. Diving with us, our dive times are so long, it can start to feel a little chilly, so if there is 1 item of dive gear we recommend you to bring on your cyprus diving holiday, it is a very well fitting wetsuit or your drysuit. Stay Warm, Have fun!!

So all that is left is to wish a fantastic New Year to all our friends and customers. Let us hope that 2013 is an amazing year for you all. If we meet half so many fabulous divers this year as we have in the past 3 seasons, we certainly will not be complaining.

Happy New Year

happy new year
