Sidemount Diving is not a new way of Scuba Diving but originates from Cave Divers, where divers must be streamlined and able to make themselves smaller to pass through narrow entrances and passages.
Now, for the mainstream Diver also, Sidemount is an easy and comfortable way of mounting your diving cylinders, to allow good trim and buoyancy while having freedom of movement in the water.
Sidemount Diving is also perfect for those divers who wish to take the strain off their backs, as the weight is re-distributed to the side.
The benefits of Sidemount Diving do not end there.
Sidemount Diving has some incredible Safety and Enjoyment Benefits
Benefit Number one of Sidemount Diving is safety- concerned. When Divers Sidemount their Cylinders, the valves can easily be seen, so if there are any leaks or problems, the Diver can easily identify these and respond accordingly, since they can easily see. This makes responding to any problems easier than using a twinset or regular single tank set-up where everything is behind the diver's head.
Sidemount Diving benefit Number two is the amount of breathing gas a diver can take in the water.
Here in Cyprus, Divers can scuba dive at a range of dive sites from relatively shallow to deeper dives such as Zenobia or Cyclops and, as we know, the amount of gas a diver breathes varies with Depth.
When a Diver Scuba Dives with Sidemount Configuration, they take 2 cylinders with them, which means they have twice the amount of gas than the Diver with a single Tank. There is a 2-fold benefit for this. Firstly, the Diver has gas redundancy and secondly, the Dive times can be longer.
